It's been several days since my last entry so now we play catch up! After Decatur we drove to Birmingham where we were fortunate enough to stay at the Hilton again (the same exact one from two weeks ago) Yeah! Great gym, luxury bedding, etc... That night we all went to dinner together at California Pizza Kitchen where Shelley and I split a mushroom pie and a pear and Gorgonzola pie. Delish! The next morning I decided to treat myself to an overpriced buffet breakfast by myself at the Hilton restaurant which I had eaten dinner at the last time we stayed at this hotel. It was very good and it feels nice to treat yourself to a solitary gourmet meal every once in a while.
After Birmingham, we drove to Mobile. In Mobile, we had a day off which was nice. We only get one day off a week so you have to make the most of it. It turns out Mobile is the original home of Mardi Gras...or so they claim. I looked it up online and spent a good minute or two reading up on it and can find no information to go with their claim.
The night we arrived there was a Mardi Gras parade going on. We missed it, but I saw evidence of it the next day, our day off. Shelley, Mara, Brian and I headed downtown to see the sights while Lauren, Colleen and Josh stayed behind at the hotel to rest.

When we got downtown, I found the site of the first theatre in Mobile.
Then we took a tour of a fort.

Next, Brian and I headed to the Science Explorium where we took in an IMAX film about the rivers in the Grand Canyon being in danger of running dry. It was a dome IMAX (practically 360 degrees of screen) so it was really cool, like we were flying over the Grand Canyon. Plus it was narrated by Robert Redford and the soundtrack was by Dave Matthews Band (one of my favorites!).
After the film, we met back up with Shelley and Mara at a local coffee shop where we enjoyed some gelatto and coffee. All in all, a great day off.
We had one show in Mobile the next day which was in the theatre of a private high school campus. The theatre was OK, but the woman who was supposed to be there to meet us and open up the loading dock entrance was more than 20 minutes late, setting our schedule off considerably. Due to some adrenaline of trying to get our set up in time, we sped through it and got it up in time to still have our half hour we are required to have by Equity, which is designated time for us to be able to get ready to act (i.e. do our make-up, warm-up, etc...). Because we were so speedy, Shelley had Theatreworks treat us to ice cream later that day.
Now we are in Tuscaloosa, AL where we had two shows today at the Bama theatre. Tomorrow we have two more shows at the Bama theatre and then we drive to Huntsville, AL...home of Space Camp.
The Bama Theatre is really interesting. It is done up like you're outside with fake scenes painted outside fake windows and a ceiling painted like the sky complete with stars that actually twinkle. Tomorrow I will take pictures. It's a bit like performing the show on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean or the Mexico pavilion at Epcot Center.

One day back stage during rehearsal, we were talking about Mr. Barley (the neighbor Josh plays) and his love of musical theatre. We discussed what shows Mr. Barley would put on if he were to open his own community theatre in East Bunnyhop. Naturally, Miss Saigon was his top pick. That day we were treated to Mr. Barley auditioning for the role of Kim in Miss Saigon. While we were in Mobile, I asked Josh to recreate this audition complete with his Mr. Barley costume.
